I've already commented about how fast time flies here, but, honestly, it's hard to believe it's almost coming to the end of September. My first prelim exams are upon me... Took one Monday for EMT, this Thursday is Chemistry, next Monday is Computer Science, and the following Thursday, Math.
This week has progressed like any other week. Like I mentioned before, I took the EMT prelim Monday. Reminiscent of the Lifeguarding and CPR exams, except twice as long. Pretty simple... almost mirrored the quizzes we have taken earlier. I will have about seven of these exams spread throughout the full year. They won't always be on the regular prelim schedule, since this curriculum is NY State-mandated.
Speaking of EMT, I ordered a stethoscope online today. It's not required, but basically required (does that make sense?), for the EMT labs as well as observation time with Cayuga Medical Center (ER) and ride time with Bangs Ambulance. They're really not as expensive as you might think--only about $12. Coupled with a pair of EMT/Utility shears for use with CUEMS, the order came to just over $24. Fairly reasonable!
Today also marks the day I started my crusade for making CU lifeguard uniforms a reality. If you're reading this, it's very likely you've never been to a pool and seen lifeguards wearing Abercrombie* hats, shirts and board** shorts. Is the rescue tube supposed to "make" the uniform? I don't think so. The chair can hold it just as well.
Call it ZI1. Zahrowski Initiative 1 at Cornell. Time to make my voice heard. Making it even worse, let's put up an ultimatum. No uniform by January 1, and I will devote my precious time elsewhere. I'm worth more than an unprofessional lifeguard who apparently sleeps on the job. If they believe otherwise, then they can have that person fill in for me.
Contrary to what might be thought of me at this point, I really am in a happy mood. In fact, I will be heading to bed before midnight tonight. And that's excellent! Today has been productive, and tomorrow will be even moreso.
And remember! Snail mail trumps all else. My address is in the About Me section. Just remember, if it's time-sensitive, either fly it in yourself or forget about the whole thing. My mail system here is an extreme example of quality over quantity. Boy, do they do a great job, but I think they're still perfecting the wheel.
And a final note--I have no functional door lock. If you'd like to attempt to break in, now is your chance. A Campus Life repair guy came this morning, and turned a lock that locks from the inside but doesn't really lock from the outside into a lock that locks whether you want it to lock or not. Door open? It's locked. Door closed? Oh... can't close the door. The lock is sticking out. Oooh--push the lock in. Closed the door? It's locked. Now you can't open the door from the inside without figuring out the lock switch while simultaneously turning the door handle in only one of the two directions. Did someone say fire? Go for the window.
Now where was that service request URL again...

*Can't neglect my audience... Abercrombie is a popular teen brand these days. Overpriced clothes, structurally equivalent to Wal-Mart, KMart and Target brands. It's $5 for the shirt, $35 for the logo. And that's the cheap rack.
**Board shorts: A name to describe a style of shorts that seems to mesh the appearance of surfer and skateboarder shorts. Baggy, comfortable, and completely unprofessional.
