Today was the day for P.E. I decided to go for the EMT (Emergency Medical Technician) course, even with such an expense. Heck, after all this tuition, what's the difference anyway? Looked at Oregon's web site and learned that it's not too hard to transfer the NY State EMT certification over to Oregon.
I got up early--around 6:30--and made my way over to the PE HQ, Teagle Hall. Was there 8:25, 5 minutes before the posted time, but it ended up actually starting at 9. With only 15 people in front of me, I rushed over to the First Aid desk and signed up. It turns out that the course was actually filled with spring semester pre-enrollments, but I am now #1 on the waiting list. Hope to be contacted by midday tomorrow. I was told that if I don't make it in, I will be placed in a different PE course.. swell.
Today I basically hung around and used the computer for a while during the middle of the day. Not much to do. Around 2pm, I went over to RPCC (Robert Purcell Community Center) to check on my FedEx Ground packages. Sure enough! They came! Took a little while to get all the boxes up... Had to use a cart, and use the elevator.
So now, I've got the monitor, speakers, and docking port replicator. Much improved sound. I can now play Another One Bites the Dust and actually compete with the fellow down the hall who plays--crazy, I know--Amazing Grace (bagpipe version) every day quite loudly. Yes, I have the same version on my computer.
Have desk lamps for my dark room, a 2nd pillow, 2nd set of sheets, a cool pillow/chair, and much, much more!
At 4:00, I was in a meeting for prospective lifeguards. It appears that I'll have a easy, stable job for a while. There are more spots than can be handled by the 20 folks that showed up. The pay is horribly horrible--$5.65/hr. An illegal rate in Oregon no less. But, better than nothing. Right now, I'm signed up for 2 hours every Sunday.
If you've looked around this web page, then you know I've been bored enough to actually create a web page for my schedule. I've found it easier to view everything in such a fashion than looking at my course list, which is simply mind numbing. And what's worse, my next door neighbor ALSO created a web page for his schedule. Ohhh dear. I am not alone.
The sounds of IM's, "You've Got Mail!", and other various online things echo throughout these halls. Turn your speakers down, folks!
Weather's getting a little warm for me during the days. Mornings are very nice... Probably about 60.
Tomorrow, I attend the "Grand Course Exchange." Simply grand. Lines that last for hours... just to change the time of my math section. Crazy. Expect something on this later.
I called American Red Cross. THPRD is fine when your Lifeguard and CPR/PR cert cards say Aaron Zarawski. Cornell doesn't exactly work this way. I'll be in touch with the ARC lady in charge of aquatics tomorrow. Should be having new cards mailed to me shortly.
Speaking of not working that way--Cornell Aquatics gives its lifeguards whistles. To quote the head of the department, "Those damn things get louder the harder you blow. So blow them hard." Nice whistles. Yet, no uniform. If I'm really into this lifeguarding job after a few weeks, I think I will petition the Director of Athletics to instate a uniform code for lifeguards. People in pink swimming trunks and a wife beater1 don't look that professional, even though they have rescue tubes. Big sigh.
Relatively early bedtime tonight, for early visit to GCX for math.
Signing off...
