Two words: lights and siren. You really must experience the thrill of driving in this fashion--it's quite exhilarating at 3am. Particularly when you're screaming through Collegetown, waking up the few who may be sleeping, and attempting to start writing a patient care report while putting on gloves.

So, would it be hard to guess that Aaron will be running another Friday overnight shift? Probably not, but March 2 is coming up soon! :)

Let's recap last Friday. 2 calls, both EtOH (alcohol), both lights/siren. For quite a few reasons, I really can't post a whole lot about the calls. They were back to back, starting around 2am. Bangs Ambulance transported both patients to Cayuga Medical Center. I apologize for the brevity, but aye--patient confidentiality comes first!

Then I ran another shift from 7-11pm the following (Saturday) evening. We actually did get one call, a superficial finger laceration. Sad to say, no lights and siren. Although we do light up the strobes on the scene of every call. This is so that, for whatever reason, should a call goes south real fast, Bangs and other agencies can find our location quickly. Dispatch information is not always correct, so we're always be prepared. That, and it seems to get the neighbors all excited to see what's going on.

My next shift will be this Friday 7-11pm. I didn't snag the overnight soon enough... Mardi Gras parties are this Friday, but all odds are against calls before 11pm.

So I took my math prelim exam tonight. Not too shabby! I think I did pretty well. They give us the solutions right after we turn in our tests, but I haven't looked them over much just yet. I like to let everything settle just a bit. Part of that subconscious belief, if you don't know you made a mistake, then the mistake can't be all that bad, right?

My next exam will be one week from Thursday--Physics. The class is going pretty well and my quiz scores are high. Just one peeve of mine regarding mechanics. So there's no such thing as centripetal force when analyzing circular forces from an inertial frame. But gosh, I say, how come all the vectors are pointing one way and yet the object still doesn't move? Ohh, they say, because it has acceleration towards the center. Oh no, I think, because that acceleration vector you just drew is STILL in the same direction. How is this working? Well, as it happens to be, the acceleration is from the surface on which the object rests, keeping it in contact with that surface... Confusing stuff huh? So as long as you bury your head in formulas, everything seems to work out OK.

Sunday was interesting. I slept in, mainly to get myself back on track for the week. I did get quite a few hours of sleep during the overnight shift, but I think a few of those hours were dedicated to replenishing my adrenaline. I woke up, ate, then went to lifeguarding. It's week two of lifeguarding, and my new co-guard wants to quit wasting her weekend time (can't agree more with that). My old co-guard didn't come back apparently. So now I might be by myself. How utterly exciting! Might need to stop by Gannett for caffeine shots or something before work. Two straight hours of guarding is a very boring and draining experience (not to mention all but illegal in Oregon). Cornell Athletics hasn't found the difference between saving face, covering tush, and actually caring about people that dish out the dough. All in good time maybe?

I got a new stethoscope today! Exciting, huh! OK, maybe not for you. But check this out-- Littmann Classic IISE. A superb instrument 'o health, great style, and best of all, the bell doesn't weigh 5 pounds and won't kill somebody I might smack with it--compared to the one that just might. (lab coat, pen, and corners of leather folio not included)
