Welcome to NR5. So my roommates may deny their acceptance of the name, but they have no choice, really. Indeed, Gamelin's computer has arrived, and here we are. Five computers, five ethernet connections (we needed a hub from CIT, no less)... ahhh, very nice. Yesterday De-en's laser printer arrived, and so far Kevin T. and my computer are able to print to it over the network. Quite cool. He has calculated the cost to be 3¢ per page. Well, it beats 10¢ per page through Cornell's Net-Print.
Yesterday I had my first Chem 211 lab session. The lab instructor (TA) is very cool. He's actually a Ph.D. and not your typical young grad student TA. He's very respected in his field and knows what he's doing. He even refuses to accept homework. And he says that his attitude towards class is, "it's me and you against Bax [the prof]." The first lab experiment was finding the density of an unknown metal. Simple procedure, but its purpose was to familiarize everyone with the lab materials.
USNews Reports Cornell University #10 in Nation (read more) The school has risen to join the ranks of the top ten in the country, up one spot from last year. Among the fellow Ivy's, we're sixth. Cornell's balance between undergraduate and graduate programs may have assisted its ranking due to ranking formula changes put in effect this year.
It is entirely too hot here. Humidity is up in the 90%'s and makes the 85 degree temperature feel searing. Today I found the formal lounge... a very enticing 68 degrees, fully over-air conditioned room with couches and lounge chairs. Tomorrow I will be spending a large amount of time there.
Today I finished up a huge load of whites and towels. And I'm hot. I will apologize to you now for the dry, uninteresting entry, but it's way too hot. That's all I can think about. Heat. Can't wait for snow.
